KRITI POV

Date: 25th May 2024

London

6:00 PM

I stepped out of Papa's car wearing a gorgeous red flowy hemmed dress with gold heels.

My black wavy hair was down, complementing the minimal jewellery I was wearing along with a soft makeup look.

As I turned around, Papa rolled his window down and looked at me seriously, though his expression remained soft.

"Enjoy yourself, but remember to be careful, especially around the boys. Understand, Kriti?" he said.

I looked back at him and nodded.

"I understand, Papa. I promise to behave myself. Thank you. See you tonight," I replied.

He smiled at me.

"Good. I will see you tonight."

He pulled the window back up and drove off down the road. I watched his car disappear into the distance and sighed to myself.

After calming my racing heart and nerves, I entered the building.

It was huge but beautiful, filled with fairy lights, candles, and decorations.

As I continued walking down the corridor, I started to hear pop music playing and saw other students dancing and having the time of their lives.

I stared at all the decorations around the hall until I heard a familiar voice.

"Kriti, over here!"

I turned around to see Maya wearing a gorgeous yellow maxi dress.

Then I noticed she was not alone.

Standing beside her was a tall, lean yet muscular man with dark hair and deep brown eyes. He was wearing a green kurta that suited him very well and somehow made his eyes stand out even more.

My heart pounded in my chest before I even realised it as I stared at the handsome stranger.

All of a sudden, Maya rushed up to me and hugged me.

I was caught off guard but quickly hugged her back.

She broke the hug and looked at me with a smile, her eyes filled with admiration.

"You look amazing, Ki! Omg, I am so jealous," she said.

I laughed at her comment and smiled.

"Thank you, Mai."

My eyes drifted back to the stranger, who approached us as Maya stepped aside.

"Kriti, this is-"

Before she could finish her sentence, he spoke.

"I am Samir, Maya's cousin," he said in a deep, musical voice.

I noticed Maya roll her eyes as if she had expected this.

My eyes locked onto Samir's, causing my stomach to do backflips.

I was so confused because this had never happened to me before.

I wondered what was happening to me right now.

Was it because of Samir?

Then I noticed that both Samir and Maya were looking at me with confusion in their eyes.

That's when I realised he must have been waiting for my reply, causing my cheeks to heat up with embarrassment.

"I am so sorry! I didn't mean to keep you waiting!" I finally blurted out.

Before he could say anything, I let out a sigh and looked back at him.

"I'm really sorry. I just have a lot on my mind right now. I'm Kriti, by the way, Maya's best friend," I finally said.

He gave me a soft smile, understanding shining in his dark brown eyes.

"Don't worry about it. I think it's cute," he said.

"C-cute!?" I stuttered in surprise and shock as my face turned red.

His cheeks painted themselves red as he realised what he had just said.

"I-uh-"

He stammered.

Before he could say anything else, Maya chimed in.

"Why don't you two get to know each other more? Maybe go and have a dance together?"

She teased us both with a wink.

Then she walked away with her male friend, Aarav, who was the same age as her, leaving the two of us alone with the tension hanging heavily between us.

I couldn't look into his eyes.

Instead, my gaze remained glued to the floor while my heart raced wildly in my chest.

I then heard him clear his throat, causing me to look up at him again.

His cheeks were still red, but I had to admit it somehow made him look adorable.

He gave me a shy smile.

"Sorry if I made you uncomfortable," he said in a soft, sincere tone.

My heart skipped a beat at his sweet apology.

"It's okay. You don't need to apologise. It's just that no one has ever called me that before, so I was surprised, that's all," I replied, trying not to meet his eyes as I still felt shy.

"Really? You're okay with me calling you cute?" he asked, wanting to make sure I meant it.

"Yeah," I replied.

He smiled and offered me his hand.

"Will you have this dance with me?"

As he asked me that, butterflies erupted in my stomach.

My cheeks glowed bright red.

I looked back up at him, the same shyness lingering in my eyes.

"S-sure," I said, accepting his offer and placing my hand in his.

He soon whisked me off to the dance floor, holding one of my hands while his other rested gently on the side of my waist as we danced.

I couldn't believe this.

This was my first time dancing with a boy.

Something I never thought someone like me would ever do or accept.
